  • The commentary you published on June 4 by the Deputy Secretary of Defense, William J. Lynn III, “Real Acquisition Reform,” is nothing short of pathetic. Lynn’s actual record in the recent and more distant past belies his attempt to put himself at the head of reforming the Pentagon.
  • The Army announced today a June 15 workshop that will convene a wide range of experts to inform a “Ground Combat Vehicle Blue Ribbon Panel,” made up of senior DoD and Army leaders. They will use ideas from the workshop to produce operational concepts and requirements for new vehicles to replace the cancelled FCS vehicles.
  • National Guard leaders from 48 of the 50 states sent a letter to the House and Senate Armed Services committees on Thursday warning that a budget decision made by Defense Secretary Robert Gates would weaken national security.
  • House-Senate negotiators reached agreement late Thursday on a $105.9 billion wartime spending bill after last-minute assurances
    from President Barack Obama that he will use all his powers to prevent the disclosure of controversial photographs depicting the treatment of detainees held by the U.S. military.
