The Obama Adminstration recently submitted an amendment to the FY 2010 supplemental request to include an additional $2.8 billion to support relief and reconstruction efforts in Haiti.  Of this amount, $650 million would be added to the Defense Department’s Overseas Contingency Operations FY2010 supplemental request.  If fully enacted, FY 2010 defense spending would rise to $693.95 billion.

In February, President Obama released his request for the FY 2011 defense budget and the FY 2010 defense supplemental appropriation. An additional $33 billion is requested to supplement the FY 2010 enacted appropriation, largely for the purpose of covering the troop surge in Afghanistan.  The March request for Haiti extends this supplemental request to $33.7 billion, an increase of 2 percent.  All of the most recently requested funding would be used to replenish emergency spending from the Overseas Humanitarian Disaster Assistance and Civic Aid account.
